VWV has one of the largest teams of charity specialists in the UK, they're ranked by both Legal 500 and Chambers and recognised as leading advisers to the top 250 charities and to the Law Commission on charity law issues. The team advise a range of clients within the charity sector - from small start-up social enterprises to large complex operating charities which have been in existence for centuries. The practice reflects the diversity and enterprise inherent in the charity sector; fast paced, forever changing and always engaging. The team work hard to make sure the values and approach reflect those of the clients, combining legal excellence with pragmatism, a commercial approach and teamwork.
Their charitable clients include universities, academies, independent schools and organisations that operate across the sector, including areas such as faith, social care, education, the arts, health and the environment.
Partner and Head of Charities, Con Alexander, is looking to grow the charities practice by recruiting a lawyer with a genuine passion for this sector, ideally to be based from our Bristol location but open to applicants from the Birmingham and Watford area also.
Could this be your next career move?
You'll get to work with clients nationally and overseas delivering a range of interesting transactional and advisory work, which includes mergers, demergers and collaborations. Your advisory work will be wide-ranging - from setting up new charities to advising trustees on their duties and responsibilities.
From day one you'll continue the great work already started by the team helping many of our clients face the ongoing challenges posed by Covid 19. And they'll be plenty of opportunities to follow your areas of interest as your experience develops naturally from working alongside lawyers with many years' experience in the sector and a real interest in passing on that experience.
You'll develop your personal profile within the firm and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives. You'll contribute to business development opportunities and identify networking to help introduce new business to the firm. Why choose us?
With around 450 employees we're a sizeable firm that still continues to grow, known for its friendly and welcoming culture where team work and collaboration is key, watch this short video to see what our people have to say about us.
For safety at this time our people are working remotely, though everyone is looking forward to getting back to the office at least part time, where our lovely culture is clear to see. We work hard but we also have fun and we're missing that social interaction with each other that really embeds our culture. That said, we have video meeting capability so we can still stay in contact as much as possible. This unusual time has proved we can work effectively as a business from home if needs be, so whilst we don't yet know how things will look when we return to our offices, what we do know now, is we can discuss the individual flexible needs for every employee and team without agility barriers.
We offer a competitive salary, holiday allowance that increases after 12 months with the firm, contribute to your pension pot, have an informal dress code which allows you to dress appropriately for your day no matter what day it is, give you private healthcare and life assurance, as well as offering a range of discounts with local businesses and with so many excellent internal training programmes on offer to everyone it's so easy to develop and improve your skills.
We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity, we're striving to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.
So who are we hoping will apply?
Perhaps you're due to qualify in September having done a charities seat within your training contract, convinced there is no other area of law for you, or you may already be a charities lawyer with a good few years' experience under your belt gained at a similar sized commercial practice. And we'd still like to hear from you if you qualified into another area of law but have always had a burning desire to explore the charities sector of law.
We're hoping to see applications from lawyers with natural business acumen teamed with an interest in advising charity clients. It's not essential to have extensive experience of this highly specialised area of law, as long as you have the intellect, legal skills and enthusiasm to get involved.
