Commercial Property Associate

Job Introduction

We are offering an opportunity for a lawyer to join the well-established and highly successful Commercial Property team in our London office, which has for many years been recognised as a leading team in the field.  Over 35% of the firm's turnover comes from the Real Estate department as a whole, making it a vital part of the firm. Our Real Estate lawyers make a key contribution to the success of the firm in their work across each of the firm's designated sectors.

Our clients include national charities and non-profit organisations, educational institutions, developers including national house builders, and property investors both large and small.  Our London Commercial Property team is experienced in dealing with a huge variety of commercial property work including in relation to shops, offices, warehouses, industrial estates and development land. The team is ranked in the most recent editions of the leading legal directories Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, and is noted for its work in the charities, retail, healthcare, property development and education sectors.   

The Commercial Property team in our London office adopts a collaborative approach and comprises three partners, a senior associate, an associate and a solicitor. We are assisted by a trainee solicitor and four paralegals, and also work closely with colleagues in our property litigation, construction and residential conveyancing teams. Across the entire firm the Real Estate department comprises 22 partners and over 85 senior associates, associates, solicitors, trainee solicitors and paralegals spread across our four offices.

We are looking for someone who wants to join our supportive team to help our clients achieve their objectives. The successful candidate will provide a wide range of advice on property matters including advice to charities, universities, schools, property investors and developers.

Role Responsibility

Your main responsibilities would be as follows:  

  • Assisting partners with a varied caseload of landlord and tenant and property development transactions
  • Drafting documents to progress transactions as required
  • Dealing with clients to take instructions and advise
  • Dealing with other solicitors, negotiating and agreeing the form of documents


The Ideal Candidate

You will be a lawyer with a natural aptitude for Real Estate work and the experience to carry a broad workload with minimal supervision.  The key attribute is the ability to understand the client's objectives and position in the market. Our applicants will be selected for an interview on the basis they have the following qualities:

  • Excellent academics
  • An ability to translate legal concepts into practical advice for commercially minded clients
  • Clear and concise drafting skills
  • The ability to develop good relationships with existing clients and new clients
  • A commitment to team work and collaboration with colleagues
  • The ability to operate effectively within the framework of Lexcel compliance and good transactional and financial management
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet fee earning targets

The ideal candidate would also have an interest in being involved in marketing activities including assistance with presentation at seminars, attending networking events and writing articles for professional journals.
