Early Careers Specialist
After temporarily pausing recruitment due to the pandemic, 2021 brings positive optimism and the Recruitment Team are bursting at the seams with new recruitment requests now that our lawyers and business support teams, and most importantly our clients, have adjusted to the new norm of remote working.
We're in an exciting phase of moving our trainee recruitment assessments to a virtual platform but there's so much more we can do to market our offering for early careers talent.
Why has a new opportunity arisen?
My name's Emma Forrester, I've been the Recruitment Manager at VWV for just over a year, I'm transforming the direction and strategy of talent sourcing for the firm. Accepting that our rapid growth means I can't achieve the vision alone, I'm on the lookout for another recruitment expert from a graduate background to compliment my recruitment background and to help keep the early careers projects on track. This role is to be based from our Bristol office and is being advertised on a full time basis however consideration will be given to part time applicants.
Could this be your next recruitment career move?
In this role you'll be given genuine autonomy to shape and redesign an early careers platform to include the transition of SQE and the introduction of Solicitor Apprentices by Autumn 2022 whilst being supported by the Recruitment Manager. You'll be the key contact for 20+ Trainee Solicitors across all office locations and the key contact for Jason Prosser, our Training Principal who heads up the Trainee Recruitment Panel. You'll have some help in managing this busy remit as Nouhaila Lakrimdi, will be your Early Careers Advisor to help keep you on track with deadlines for the Trainee cycle most busy around seat rotation and trainee recruitment assessment periods.
And if you're keen to branch out into other recruitment, there's plenty to keep you busy on that front too.
Why choose us?
With around 450 employees we're a sizeable firm that still continues to grow, known for its friendly and welcoming culture where team work and collaboration is key, watch this short video to see what our people have to say about us.
For safety at this time our people are working remotely, though everyone is looking forward to getting back to the office at least part time, where our lovely culture is clear to see. We work hard but we also have fun and we're missing that social interaction with each other that really embeds our culture. That said, we have video meeting capability so we can still stay in contact as much as possible. This unusual time has proved we can work effectively as a business from home if needs be, so whilst we don't yet know how things will look when we return to our offices, what we do know now, is we can discuss the individual flexible needs for every employee and team without agility barriers.
We offer a competitive salary, holiday allowance that increases after 12 months with the firm, contribute to your pension pot, have an informal dress code which allows you to dress appropriately for your day no matter what day it is, give you private healthcare and life assurance, as well as offering a range of discounts with local businesses and with so many excellent internal training programmes on offer to everyone it's so easy to develop and improve your skills.
We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity, we're striving to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.
So who are we hoping will get in touch?
You'll be from a legal background with at least 2 years' experience of managing a graduate process, be familiar with organising and running the trainee recruitment assessment process and had involvement with seat rotation and pastoral support for trainees, and you'll have an awareness of the new Solicitors Qualifying Examination that comes into effect this Autumn.
If you've got further than an awareness of the SQE and have already worked on a project to implement and have some knowledge of the Solicitor Apprenticeship route, then you're really ticking every box!
It is a challenging and busy role, but also hugely rewarding, you'll need to be someone who can balance the business needs alongside the driven ambition of our future lawyers but do it with empathy and patience. You'll be a natural sales person, totally passionate about your role and the importance it plays in the longer term vision for the firm. You'll be a confident presenter, able to be an ambassador for the culture and values of VWV, totally on board with the importance of showcasing our employer brand.

The Assessment Process
The recruitment process will be a two stage virtual interview process, the first interview will be with the Recruitment Manager (Emma Forrester), HR Director (Sarah Cook) and Early Careers Advisor (Nouhaila Lakrimdi) and will involve a ten minute presentation, the topic will be briefed in advance.
If you've made a great impression at the first interview, we'll very much hope you want to come back for an interview with our Training Principal (Jason Prosser) and Deputy Training Principal (Jess Booz).
We may also want to introduce you informally to the wider Recruitment Team before an offer is made.
Polite note to recruitment agencies
We're not currently looking for agency support with this role, if that should change we'll remove this statement and will only accept named introductions after terms have been agreed through VWV's Recruitment Manager, Emma Forrester.
