Paralegal (not visible)
Our litigation and dispute resolution team are on hand to help clients resolve disputes in the most efficient and cost effective way. Their expertise in alternative dispute resolution methods including negotiation, adjudication, expert determination, mediation and arbitration often avoids the costly process of litigation through the courts.
Client response times are critical in the above delivery so Partners Rachel Crean (healthcare litigation specialist) and Ambuja Bose (insolvency specialist) are looking to recruit a Paralegal into their team in London to ensure they continue to provide a responsive client service.
Could this be your first step on the legal career ladder?
A paralegal role at VWV provides the perfect building blocks for future trainee solicitors looking to gain experience ahead of starting a training contract, or even to assist with applications for training contracts themselves, and that's due to the variety of legal disciplines you'll be exposed to. We're proud of our record in transitioning a good proportion of our existing paralegals into trainee solicitors.
In this varied role you'll be providing legal and admin support to lawyers of varying experience levels, by responding to new enquiries, drafting documents, undertaking legal research, maintaining Lexcel compliant files and assisting with client correspondence and reports. You'll develop those all-important client facing skills as you liaise directly with clients as you go above and beyond to meet their deadlines. You'll become familiar with the firm's case management system and compliance procedures for letters of engagement, file opening, money laundering, archiving, billing and client accounts. And that's not all, you'll be actively encouraged to help the team to develop cross-selling and marketing opportunities and who knows you may even introduce some business yourself.
Why choose us?
Unlike some firms, your time as a Paralegal counts towards your overall score for a training contract application should you choose to apply to us, in addition to your Supervisor providing feedback to support the application.
VWV is known for its friendly and welcoming culture so team work and collaboration is key. With around 450 employees we’re big enough to win the big ticket work but small enough to know our people as individuals and help our star performers shine, see the video for what our people have to say about us.
We offer a competitive salary, contribute to your pension pot, offer holiday allowance that increases on a year's employment, give you private healthcare and life assurance, offer a range of discounts with local businesses and with so many excellent internal training programmes on offer to everyone it's so easy to develop and improve your skills.
Being based from our London office you'll have world known attractions at your doorstep and a huge underground network of 83 tube stations to assist with your commute wherever you're based. And no shortage of culture to entertain when clocked off with three of the top ten museums and galleries just around the corner.
We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity, we're striving to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential.
So who are we hoping will apply?
You'll have a Law degree or have taken the Graduate Diploma in Law and perhaps even done your LPC and whilst any previous paralegal experience will surely help you get to grips with such a valued role your lack of paralegal experience will not hold you back as it's the soft skills below which are much more of interest.
We'd love to see applications from candidates with a genuine interest in commercial litigation, insolvency or healthcare litigation, if you've got that plus some relevant experience , then you’ve absolutely got our attention. It's a busy role so you'll be highly organised, an excellent all-round communicator with proficient IT skills using Microsoft Office and someone who's motivated by the team's successes ahead of their own. And whilst there's no doubt that time spent in a commercial law firm of this size will naturally enhance your commercial acumen, we love to see applications from graduates whose commercial awareness is instinctive so if that's you, then we really want to hear from you.
